In practice, many clinics find a middle ground with managed cloud hosting plans specifically designed for healthcare, which bundle in compliance-ready infrastructure, automatic backups, and support for a predictable monthly price that is higher than basic shared hosting but well below the cost of building and maintaining custom infrastructure from scratch. For most clinics beyond the very smallest single-provider practice, this middle path tends to offer the best balance of cost, reliability, and compliance readiness.
